What usually goes wrong
Printed page numbers rarely match PDF page numbers
A document with a cover and a contents page puts "page 1" on PDF page 3. Count thumbnails, not the numbers on the paper.
Extracting does not shrink pages, only removes them
Three heavy scanned pages extracted from a heavy scan are still heavy. Compress afterwards if it is for upload.
Ranges are inclusive at both ends
4-9 gives you six pages, not five. Check the count on the result.
